Offering

30mm by 30mm - Mosaic gold in sterling silver

Another travel inspired piece today! When I was Bali, there were spiritual offerings everywhere, not only in temples, but also just placed on the sidewalk. Due to the sheer volume of these, walking down the street in Bali is a bit of an obstacle course, resulting in a rather lively dance to avoid trodding on one. According to my guidebook, it wasn't an offense to step on them, but they were so lovely, and created so lovingly, that it seemed  wrong anyhow. I particularly enjoyed that many of the offerings contained a Ritz cracker. Evidently food is required in an offering, and very often Ritz or Mini Ritz was the food of choice. I'm sure my father would approve, as he loves Ritz crackers. The local street dogs certainly did!

Deep Sea Diver

65mm by 20mm - Mosaic gold and electroplated labradorite in sterling silver

I really love how this one turned out. I've done something similar before with pearls, but when I started playing around with this piece of labradorite, it immediately made me think of a drop. But it's also a little like the first time I went scuba diving in open water and we descended hand over hand down a line into the depths of the Gulf of Thailand.

Wild

18mm by 13mm - Mosaic gold in sterling silver

I love this wild colour combination. It's a bit fiery, a bit fun, a bit cheeky. It's a little like me, really, or how I try to be, though I think I fail at the cheeky part a fair bit.

But I definitely have been living my life wild and free lately, so it's no wonder that this colour blend seems to speak to me.

Icicles

28mm by 7mm - Mosaic gold in sterling silver

One of my goals this year was to completely avoid snow. As a Canadian, I've experienced crazy harsh winters every year, complete with loads of snow and temperatures down to the -30s at times (Celsius AND Fahrenheit). These earrings are a nod to my family and friends back in Canada still suffering through the wintery depths. You can make it, guys! Only a few more weeks to go!!!

Leather and Lace

25mm diameter - Mosaic gold and pearls in sterling silver
Email for Purchase Info

I think I was feeling a bit melodramatic when I made this one. As I'm sure you're aware, I tend to go for bling, but this seems almost over the top, even to me! However, I love the juxtaposition of the deep black gold and the tiny rice pearls. Very fancy!

Near to the Sea

Up until I became a nomad, I had always lived in a landlocked area of Canada. Sure, we had lovely lakes, but no sea or ocean. I love the sea, however, so one of my favourite parts of the last year is that I have been almost constantly either right on a coastline, or at the very least near one. I have taken excellent advantage of this priviledge by learning to scuba dive and to surf. I am one lucky and grateful woman!

Terraces - SOLD

65mm by 20mm - Mosaic gold in sterling silver

While the rice fields in Bali were beautiful, the rice terraces that I got to see during a day tour were absolutely unbelieveable. I can entirely understand why most people find Bali to be a paradise. Once again, travel provides the best inspiration.

Balinese Beauty

30mm by 20mm - Mosaic gold in sterling silver

There is a very definite photographic inspiration behind this pendant. The blend here is reminiscent of my favourite photograph of myself from my time in SE Asia. It was taken by Crystal Lagace, who I met in Bali and did a day tour with. She's a writer, but it's evident she's also a fantastic photographer!

Bruschetta

12mm by 12mm - Mosaic gold, smalti, filati in sterling silver

When I got to Bali, I had just come off a flight that I had to get up at 2:30am to catch. I hadn't researched taxi prices, and knew I was being massively price gouged, but I was just too tired to care (for the record, I WAS being price gouged). I finally got to my hostel, exhausted, hungry, and feeling broke. At this point I was not really prepared to be my usual adventurous gal with food.  Luckily for me, the menu revealed one of the cheapest items to be bruschetta. It might have been the best bruschetta ever. Also for the record....I ate fish and chips for dinner that night.

Lilly Pads - SOLD

14mm by 10mm - Mosaic gold in sterling silver

This blend is the same as the pendant I posted last week. But today I noticed that they really look like lilly pads, much like this photo from Bali:

Lilly Pilly- SOLD

30mm by 15mm - Mosaic gold in sterling silver

I've often remarked that Australia is just like Canada with different flora, fauna, and weather. And they drive on the other side of the road. One of my favourite plants was the lilly pilly. This incredible shrub has new growth that is bright red, and this ring was the result of my enjoyment of these plants.

Meditation - SOLD

45mm diameter - Mosaic gold, filati, Venetian cabochon in sterling silver
Email for Purchase Info

This piece is truly a case of cross cultural, international inspiration. The lovely central glass cabochon is from Venice, Italy, but the ultimate colour scheme was inspired by Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a Thai temple just outside the city of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. The 300 steps leading up to the temple were built as a form of meditation, and I wanted this piece to be calmly contemplative.

Red Rock

20mm diameter- Mosaic gold, filati, smalti in sterling silver
Email for Purchase Info

Inspiration comes from small things as well as striking vistas. The idea for this ring came from the red Santorini rock that rests on a ledge outside my current nomadic studio. The current workspace is in Santorini, where I'll be living and working for the next seven weeks until I have to leave for the Society of American Mosaics conference in San Diego, USA. I am teaching my Precision Mosaic Jewelry workshop there as I have done in past years. Hope to see a few of you there!

Rice Paddies

Another amazing thing on Bali is the rice paddies. The island has been growing rice for centuries, and there is something just so stunning about them. I had the opportunity to see them on a lovely private tour with a fellow Canadian, and these earrings are based on that vista.

It's a Jungle Out There - SOLD

16mm by 16mm - Mosaic gold and smalti in sterling silver

After several months of solid travel, finishing in a two week nasty cold, I am finally back at in a nomadic studio with loads of new inspiration to chew on. This blend of deep blue greens reminds me of my time on Bali, with its lush jungles.
