Uniqueness--SOLD

20mm by 15mm - Mosaic gold, smalti, filati in sterling silver

My mother recently celebrated a birthday, and though she owns a couple of my mosaic pendants, she didn't yet own any of my earrings, as I've only been making them a few months. Heck, even I don't own a pair yet.

But my mom is a truly unique individual, and so I had to make her something very special. She also likes really BIG earrings, and the ones I have made thus far don't quite qualify. At one point a number of years ago she liked to joke about wearing earrings that went down to her navel. So I ordered these larger bases just for her, and then further amped them up by dropping them on some chains, which I've also never done.

And thanks Mom, for being so exceptional. And for always encouraging me to march to the beat of my own drum. Sorry I forgot about that for a little while. I love you.

My Precious....

30mm by 15mm - Mosaic gold in sterling silver

As I've mentioned before, I don't own NEARLY enough of my own jewelry. In fact I know numerous people who own more pieces than I do.

So as one of my last acts in my British Columbia studio, I knuckled down and made myself a ring. I think I have had this base for about 7 or 8 years, a gift from my friend Conny from  Tiles & Tools in Europe. I'll admit I didn't have time to get crazy with an elaborate design, but one of the things I've always loved about mosaic is that even a simple concept can be beautiful. And now I have one more jewel to adorn myself with at the SAMA conference, where I'm headed tomorrow.

Fresh Inspiration--SOLD

45mm by 15mm - Mosaic gold in sterling silver

I recently
received a batch of new sterling silver bases from Vietnam, where I have them custom made to my specifications. This time round, I decided to order some dimensions I've never had before, and this is the first of those. I love the new sizes, and will be hopefully getting to showcase a few of these over the next few weeks should I find some time for creating and some studio space.

As of today, I head for Calgary to begin another whirlwind adventure. The posts may get less frequent, but I've not disappeared, I'm just wandering. And remember, not all who wander are lost.

With Two Lime Twists--SOLD

I had the great joy of finally getting a hair cut and colour yesterday. This may not sound like much, but it's been 6 months since my last one, and when you're rarely in your home town, and your hairdresser is a new mother and only works two days a week, it seemed like a miracle that the stars aligned so as to let it happen. The appointment also allowed me to present her with this:

She and I barter our services, and I've owed her this work for longer than I care to admit. She didn't request this specific piece, but rather said, "Make me something I'll like." Knowing she loves Greek iconography, and knowing how excited she is to be a mother, I decided to do a classic Greek Madonna and Child icon, using her gorgeous face as the Madonna. Love you Vivi, and little Petros couldn't have asked for a better mom.

Ice Cube--SOLD

Okay, so I know this isn't a "cube", but Ice Cube has a better ring than Ice Square. I used a similar blend of colour last Friday on Pendulum. I have to thank my sister Lorna for the idea though. She likes to commission pieces, then before I get to making them, change her mind. It's a good thing I'm not quick on the draw. However, sometimes I like her suggestion, so I make it anyways, as I did here. If this one doesn't get spoken for in the next while, it might have to live with me. I might let Lorna borrow it, if she asks nicely.

A Bit Blue

It's true, I'm a bit blue. Tomorrow I will be on my way back to Edmonton for a very quick regroup and repack before heading off to the States. I've enjoyed my time here in British Columbia, in particular the lack of snow! There was more sunshine than I expected, a hot tub for relaxing, a puppy to cuddle, and a great temporary studio to use. I'm going to miss here. But such is the life of the gypsy mosaic artist. Thank you to my folks for needing to escape winter (you call this winter?) and leaving me to care for their great space. I
appreciate it greatly.
